I’ve never liked beer, so when friends of mine discuss the various merits of this or that brew, I always feel a little left out. I’ve developed my own equivalent of a craft beer obsession over the years though, which is an affinity for off-beat sodas. I haven’t had a Coke or Sprite in more than a decade, and never really liked them anyway, but I tend to keep Virgil’s root beer or cola on hand, and recently I’ve been trying different ginger beers. The one in the picture is from Bermuda, and it is amazing, the best one I’ve had by far.
It has a hint of lemon, which gives it a nice aftertaste, and also protects the yeast culture that gives it its primary flavor.
And because this is a music blog, there’ll be a post up in a few minutes featuring some particularly fine garage rock from the island that gave me my favorite ginger beer.
